Baby Blue

Commissioned by Netflix for the series Top Boy, this painting portrays the character Stefan as a reflection of his environment.

I painted his skin in earthy tones of blue, yellow, and green to embody the influence of the world around him. The setting is Victoria Park — a location I visited before starting the painting, so I could absorb the atmosphere, observe the details, and make sure I captured the energy authentically.

The background holds layered symbolism. I superimposed local tower blocks and a pram to represent youth and speak to the premature adultification of Black boys in our society. For those who are fans of the show, know the bench is iconic — a familiar landmark that grounds the piece in place and family.
