Giclée Print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm (smooth matt finish). 600 x 450 mm (including 30 mm white border)
Limited Edition of 15
I wanted to capture the elegance and agility found in everyday experiences. The Art of Frying Plantain depicts a figure in a poised, balletic stance, gracefully frying plantain—avoiding splashes of oil while referencing the rule of cooking plantain: the second you look away, it burns. This ritual of cooking is a careful dance between patience and vigilance. Culturally, plantains hold deep significance in Afro-Caribbean and African households. The fruit represents comfort, nostalgia, and home. I created the floral background/wallpaper inspired by ogee tile, typically found in European- Victorian decor, and the sorrel plant, which holds cultural and traditional significance in Jamaica. Sorrel was brought from Africa during the transatlantic slave trade, further tying the piece to themes of heritage and migration
